Society Meetings
The Travelers Rest Historical Society hosts two meetings in the Spring and two in the Fall with our invited speakers presenting interesting programs about the history of the city of Travelers Rest, South Carolina and the Upstate.

Our next Society Meeting will be on Tuesday, October 27 when we welcome noted local historian Durant Ashmore to speak on Native American villages in the SC Upstate and the implications for battles during during the American Revolution
For our first meeting and program of the 2026 Fall Society Meeting season on August 25 , we were excited to revisit the era of Textile League Baseball with Dr. Bill Cashion, whose father, grandfather and many others in his family like Bill himself played for the nearby Slater Mill Baseball Team during the heyday of Textile League Baseball and Basketball.
Dr. Cashion is a South Carolina native with over forty years of experience as a pastor, missionary, and educator. Holding advanced theological degrees, his global ministry spans six continents. He remains dedicated to spiritual growth and community development, leveraging a robust academic background to serve both local and international communities.
In addition to his ministry work, Dr. Cashion is an active member of the Greenville Textile Heritage Society. We were honored to welcome Dr. Bill Cashion as our speaker, sharing all things sports in the Textile world.
We encourage you to support Dr. Cashion in his work with the Greenville Textile Heritage Society and his ministry including teaching baseball to young players in Venezuela and raising funds to help with recovery from the horrific earthquake there earlier this summer.
